The city’s ancient ruins and architectural wonders have left an indelible mark on my work. Unlike Florence, which also shaped my artistic perspective, Rome offers a unique blend of ancient and modern that enriches my creative expression. The remnants of Rome's grand empire, like the Colosseum and the Pantheon, serve as constant sources of inspiration, connecting me with a past that continues to resonate today.
Spending time in Rome, particularly with my sister and her daughter, has deepened my understanding of how place and time influence our experiences. Observing their lives in Rome compared to my upbringing in Acton provided a fresh perspective on the impact of environment on personal development. This personal connection, coupled with Rome's historical significance, has significantly influenced my recent works.
The presence of a film crew in Rome added an intriguing layer to my experience. While their presence heightened media attention, it also enriched my connection to the city, allowing me to capture its essence more profoundly. The focus was not just on Rome’s historical grandeur but also on how it permeates contemporary life.
In my latest collection, I explore the intricate layers of Rome’s history through my art. Rome’s open display of historical layers offers a rich tapestry for representation. Unlike cities where the past is often obscured, Rome’s history is visible in its very fabric, allowing for a deeper exploration in my work. The pieces aim to convey not only the visual beauty of Rome but also its temporal depth and its influence on the present.
Rome’s topography, characterized by its undulating landscape and rare flat streets, adds a dramatic quality to the city’s visual appeal. This topography is reflected in my artwork through its textures and raised elements, mimicking the city’s dynamic landscape. The Seven Hills of Rome, fundamental to its early development, are highlighted in gold in my work. This symbolizes the unity of the seven tribes and the city's expansion, represented through visual borders that denote the growth of the Roman Empire.
The colors crimson and gold are integral to my depiction of Rome. These hues evoke the grandeur of Rome’s history and iconic imagery, such as the legend of Remus and Romulus. They capture the majestic essence of Rome’s past and its cultural symbolism. Additionally, elements inspired by Renaissance sculptors and the terracotta stone feel of Rome’s streets celebrate the city’s rich artistic heritage.

The vibrant energy and “confined chaos” of the city’s urban environment are reflected through techniques like color splashes and throw art. This acknowledgment of street art contrasts with the historical richness, bridging Rome’s past and present.
